Back then I stayed really close to the highway and we could see Woodlands Checkpoint from our window. The market place near the Checkpoint was very significant as it was where people in the neighborhood would enjoy meals and buy groceries together. I would also drive into Malaysia to get cheaper petrol in the middle of the night if the checkpoints are clear to save some money. The most memorable memory is when I was younger I used to own a hawker stall with my mother in law and we sold min jiang kueh(pancakes with fillings) together. Later into the career I started to wake up earlier and to deliver oil to other hawkers to earn extra money in order to raise my kids and to pay for our flat.
